BRYAN KIENLEN

New Brunswick, NJ's favorite sons the Bouncing Souls, whose buoyant and lively pop/punk re-ignited the pogo dance craze, are regarded as seminal to contemporary punk's sound. Theirs is a kitchen sink of styles: hardcore, metal, funk, pop... basically whatever they can pull out of their musical closet. As one of the longest surviving and best selling punk bands to come from the east coast, the Bouncing Souls have been tearing up stages with their mischievously energetic shows for 20 years.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation (1991) is a punk rock watermark, inspiring new fans to rediscover their earlier work. Anthemic and catchy ("Ole!"), the band's slamming chords ("Private Radio") and choruses ("Manthem") invoke everything from The Ramones to Social Distortion. In the middle of this whirling dervish is bassist Brian Kienlen, who plays every song like he's spiking a volleyball.
