As a punk rock band with metal leanings starting out in Irvine, California in 1998, Thrice (then a trio) recorded and pressed their own albums, selling them out of the back of their cars at skate parks, parties and local shows. An honest if not original take on hardcore/thrash, the band’s earnest persistence eventually attracted independent label interest which got them on the road, where they were able to bring discipline to their music and energies.
In 2003 Thrice signed with Island Records and released The Artist in the Ambulance. Now focused, emo-dynamics and brick-hard production were grafted to the band’s sturdy hardcore and metal scaffolding, which raised the bar for future material.
Bassist Eddie Breckenridge is more metal than punk, a muscular counter-balance that provides resistance and friction for Thrice’s push-pull implosions.
