Band: The Donnas
From the band name and rushing power chords, to song titles like “Hey, I’m Gonna Be Your Girl” and “I Wanna Be A Unabomber,” The Donnas never tried to hide the fact that they set out to be the female version of the Ramones. Since their debut in 1998 The Donnas have evolved into an accomplished anthemic hard rock band, with several hit songs to their track record, including a new spin on Billy Idol’s “Dancing With Myself.” Today The Donnas’ songs can be heard in movie soundtracks, tribute albums, video games and even a Disney commercial.
Maya Ford’s bass playing has also transcended the band’s punk genesis. Where three chord songs were originally played on one bass string, Ford’s other teachers — AC/DC, KISS, Motley Crue — gave her a solid rock foundation to build from. Ford is now considered to be at the forefront of female hard rock bassists.
