With the release of Damnation Overdrive in 1996, NY band Turbo A.C.’s four-barrel rock further defined a growing rock sub-genre: greaser punk. Taking the aggression and attitude of punk rock and bolting it to metal surf guitar, TAC’s “bourbon with a gasoline chaser” style music made for defiant, roughhouse rock. Appearing on near countless split singles, EPs and compilations, it wasn’t until 2003′s Automatic that TAC became heavy-hitters on the touring circuit, tearing up the concert trail as though it was a demolition derby.
Mike Dolan, TAC’s bassist, has his work cut out for him. The band’s “screw you” approach to quantum punk rock physics and how it all relates to Motorhead is a test of endurance and skill. His approach has all the finesse of a blown head gasket — that he’s as loud as a blown muffler is merely a bonus.
