Rick “The Bass Player” Rosas
Band: Neil Young
Gear: SVT-VR, SVT-810AV
Rick “The Bass Player” Rosas is Neil Young’s long-time bassist, but the L.A. music veteran has played on numerous albums and sessions with Joe Walsh, Willie Nelson, Johnny Rivers and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Never one to let a good jam session go by, Rosas often plays every Monday evening at Hollywood’s The Joint nightclub. That is, when he’s not on the road or in his owned and operated Smartso Digital Studio.
It’s Rick’s bass you hear on Neil Young’s timeless classic, “Rockin’ in the Free World” and Joe Walsh’s “Ordinary Average Guy.” Armed with an unpretentious and rootsy style, Rosas’ playing is like camouflage, his lines blending into both Walsh and Young’s musical scenery effortlessly. Not one for showing off his technical ability (though he has chops to spare) Rosas relies solely on feel to bring life to the songs.
