Cracker & Camper Van Beethoven Share Krummenacher

cracker_2006.jpg

Huh? All right... Victor Krummenacher, co-founder of '80s college rock faves Camper Van Beethoven, is currently out on tour with both CVB and Cracker. Cracker, you may know, was started by fellow CVB co-founder David Lowery after CVB broke up. Both bands are still/back in action, and the current tour sees them sharing the stage. Each band does its own set, then they get together at the end of the night for a massive encore. Holding down the low end all night long is Krummenacher, playing his P-Bass through an Ampeg SVT cab and head. The night I saw them at the Crocodile Cafe in Seattle, the CVB/Cracker Supergroup did a scorching rendition of "Interstellar Overdrive", the epic Pink Floyd tune (probably in homage to Syd Barrett, RIP; also covered by CVB on their second LP, II & III). Krummenacher artfully worked in the bass line from "Lucifer Sam" for added groove factor. (This photo is of Victor K. and David Lowery onstage in 2006 in Richmond, VA, taken by Jessica Bahlman.)

Ampeg Is On Charlotte's Side, Yes It Is...

charlottesubways.jpg
Actually, Ampeg is behind her. Charlotte Cooper, bass player for England's The Subways, was recently spotted onstage in Seattle, WA at Endfest (107.7 The End's annual big outdoor gig) with vintage Ampeg SVT enclosures and heads behind her. The teenage band, hot right now with their debut CD, Young For Eternity, is known for their old-school punk sound mixed with guitarist Billy Lunn's teen angst lyrics (and drummer Josh Morgan's primal pounding). Charlotte and band will be touring the UK and Europe during the fall.

What do ya do when you're standing on the side of the stage, enjoying a show, haning in the tech area while Sammy and Michael are on stage playing and kickin some xxxx rock n roll, and then all of a sudden, you look over and see Michael Anthony's tech being kissed by Steve Dachroeden?

Answer....you take a picture of it and post it on the web for everyone to see....that's how much Ampeg love you Dugie! Take a shower!

Michael Anthony Looks Good In An Ampeg Dan Armstrong Guitar

Slide3.jpg

The Ampeg Dan Armstrong lucite guitar is not only a great playing guitar, but also doubles as a fish bowl. When you're getting small and tired of playing music, just crawl inside the guitar and peer outside. That's what they mean when they tell you to "get into your music". Michael and long time friend, Tommy Wilson get small together before the show when in St. Louis.

Michael Anthony Plays Van Halen This Summer With Sammy Hagar

Michael Anthony is "the other half" of Van Halen. When Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony went out on tour this summer, it was obvious that Michael is in his element playing and singing Van Halen songs.
Slide2.jpg
If you didn't catch this tour, you missed a great run of shows. Each night, Michael and Sam play classic Van Halen songs that really bring a smile to your face when you hear these great songs. Although the tour is billed as a Sammy Hagar show, there is a part of the show when Sam and Michael play together and refer to themselves as " The Other Half" (that is, of Van Halen).

Note, that Michael does not leave home to tour without his long time tech, Kevin Dugan. Kevin...your're part of the band!

Behind The Scene And On Stage With Sammy Hagar

Slide4.jpg

When you see Sammy Hagar play live, be prepared to see him not only tear it up on stage with his music and killer band, but also be prepared for a party. What else would you expect, when you have Cabo Wabo taquila, girls and combine them with music.

On stage the music keeps coming, yet behind the stage and on the stage, the party is happening. Pictures like this tell only part of the story, so use your imagination....what goes on stage, stays on stage...or comes home with you....need I say more....

Larry Cragg Loves His Ampeg Tube DI

Slide1.jpg

When it comes to tubes, Larry Cragg knows what he's talking about. Larry has been the tech for Neil Young for years and is also a renound tube amp expert. When Larry tried out the Ampeg SVT-DI, it was an eye opening experience.

"It's great for acoustic guitar as well as for bass" says Larry. On the current CSNY tour, Rick "the bass player" Rosas is using the tube DI for his bass, as well as when they recorded their recent album, the tube DI was used all over Rick's tracks.

Tubes....what more could you ask for!!!!

World Party's Nathan Fisher & Ampeg

nathan_crop.jpg

Karl Wallinger's group World Party has an LP output so small, you can count their releases on one hand. So when the nearly 20 year old group goes out on tour, it's an event. They're on tour in the US right now, and with them on bass is a young guy named Nathan Fisher. Nathan joins the 7-piece touring group after having logged time with The Tears (an offshoot of England's celebrated Suede) and The Alchemicals. World Party is touring in support of the reissues of their entire 5 CD catalog, including the most recent, Dumbing Up. Nathan's economical Ampeg touring rig includes a 1x15" cab and an SVT-4PRO head, though he tends to use larger Ampeg cabinets when space allows.

Wolfmother Bassist Plays Ampeg SVT-CL's and SVT-610HLF

Chris Ross, bassist for Wolfmother, plays both keyboards as well as bass, and both instruments are amplified through his Ampeg SVT-6x10 cabs with two SVT-CL heads powering each cab. Don't be confused by the cosmetics of his rig, they're pure Ampeg. Chis and his tech Casey wanted to make the rig look unique, so they outfitted his cabinets and heads with custom grill cloth.

Eagles Of Death Metal Guitarist Dave Catching Plays a Dan Armsrong Reissue

Dave Catching.jpg

Dave Catching had been looking for a Dan Armstrong "plexi" guitar for some time, and when he heard that Ampeg was reissuing them, he made a call and asked when he could get his hands on one to try. While playing a show in Seattle, WA at The Showbox, Dave tried one out... and the guitar has been in his arsenal ever since. EODM (Eagles Of Death Metal) begin their European tour next week and will be playing all over. No doubt they'll be seen and heard with the Ampeg Dan Armstrong guitar....look for it! Look through it...

Bassist Juan Alderete of The Mars Volta Plays the SVT-VR Reissue

The Mars Volta Bassist.jpg

At this year's Endfest held at the White River Ampetheatre near Seattle, an SVT-VR was on stage with The Mars Volta's bassist Juan Alderete. Juan had been using a mid 70's vintage SVT for years but when the SVT-VR was released, he was able to get that 70's Ampeg sound from a new and more reliable product than the classic original model. Juan's tech, Jerry Riccardi also appreciates the reliability of the new SVT-VR head.

Rick "The Bass Player" Rosas with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, On the Road with SVT's

rickrosas_smaller.jpg

Rick "The Bass Player" Rosas is out on tour with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young right now, and can be heard playing through an Ampeg SVT rig. For this tour he's got an SVT-810AV cabinet powered by a vintage '70s SVT head. He has the new SVT-VR ("vintage reissue") with him as a backup.
One of Rick's best nights was last week when CSNY played Seattle. Due to the band's desire to keep the volume low onstage, Rick had to keep his rig turned down for most of the gig. But when it came time for "Rockin' In The Free World," Rick turned up his SVT and gave everyone the missing low end they were needing. Rick's SVT will be in full force for the entire tour, keeping him and everyone happy.

But when it came time for "Rockin' In The Free World," Rick turned up his SVT and gave everyone the missing low end they were needing. Rick's SVT will be in full force for the entire tour, keeping him and everyone happy.

Ampeg Loves You....This Much!!!!

Slide6.jpg

Wolfmother1.jpg

Holding down the low end all night long is Krummenacher, playing his P-Bass through an Ampeg SVT cab and head.
